There is so much amazing info here, Thank You!! My husband and I will be spending 2 weeks on the Island in May. We are biking with Freeride for 8 days and we are wanting to hike 3-4 days.
Are the hikes listed above listed in order of your favorites? We are looking for 3-4 day hikes, we live at high elevation and we are used to technical trails. Would love your opinion on the 3-4 best/most scenic hikes. We will not have climbing gear.
We also LOVE food. What were some of the best meals and cocktails on the island?
If you ever find yourself in the Tetons in Idaho, let us know!!

My wife and I will there in July!!! Looking on Tripadvisor we see transfer sections for the Pico to Pico hike. They have morning and sunrise. I see in your description you started at sunrise. Pros, cons? to starting later if any. Also, should we worry about a transfer service? How did you get back to the start?

Cheers 🙂 Yea they will often be closed due to a landslide. They are maintained well but seems that after every big storm that is work to be done so hard to keep up. Usually you can step over the landslides but they close the hikes for safety reasons. On this trail there were a few but nothing we found dangerous. You can always go and then turn back if it feels dangerous but yeah can ask around aswell if anyone has done it recently and what the reasoning for the closure is. Basically if you go and it was closed, it’s at your own risk as you are going against the safety advice.

Just checked your PR12 hike – caminho real da encumeada. Can’t help noticing that tape on the gate and the sign ‘danger’. Then I checked your date and it says 21 Jan. We did that hike (well, we started at the same point at Corrida and then walk PR12 until the path to Pico Grande, went up Pico Grande and then descended to Curral Das Freias) on the 1st of Feb and the tape and sign is still there. I wonder how often they actually maintain those hikes.
