Coban Talun Waterfall in East Java: Complete Guide

Coban Talun Waterfall in East Java: Complete Guide

Coban Talun Waterfall is in Batu City near Malang in East Java. A short 20-minute walk down the sandy trail is all it will take before you can enjoy the stunning waterfall, viewpoints, and caves. As well as the waterfall there is a camping ground and a specialized photography/hangout area with photo perches, wings, and other cool photo opportunities.

TOP 3 PLACES TO STAY IN EAST JAVA

COBAN TALUN WATERFALL

Coban Talun Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall in the city of Batu. It opens at 7 am and closes at 5 pm. It is important to note that this waterfall is best visited in the rainy season. We visited in the drier season and while it was still beautiful, with more flow it would be incredible.

The hike/walk down takes about 20 minutes. The ground is very sandy when it is dry and can become quite slippery and dusty. I recommend enclosed shoes.

Along the route, you will see a number of ‘camps’ or ‘selfie stations’. It’s not something I am interested in but if you want to get some random photos of yourself sitting in sunflowers, with giant wings, or in an Indian-style Apache camp… you can do that too.

Once we reached the bottom of the falls, there were a number of huts set up but it seemed they were only used in high season. We had the whole place to ourselves at 9 am in the morning.

There are several cool rocks, which make great spots to take photos but our favorite area was down at ground level in the pool of water. It was freezing but incredible to watch the water trickling down the waves. You can also explore inside the caves behind the waterfall.

WHERE IS COBAN TALUN WATERFALL

We stayed in Malang when we visited Coban Talun. For us, it was a 1-hour drive. There is a parking lot and a small entrance fee of $1-2. From the parking lot, you just need to follow the signs and it is a very easy path to follow down to the waterfall.

Below I have pinned the exact location of Coban Talun Waterfall so you can find it easily.

What are my favorite pieces of gear for waterfall adventures?

There are four pieces of gear that I simply never forget when I go on a waterfall adventure. These are four items that I using right now and this list gets updated every year! Here are my waterfall adventure essentials.

  • Arcteryx BETA AR Rain Jacket: This is my go-to rain jacket. It’s super light, folds down into a tiny ball, and protects brilliantly in a storm. This one never leaves my backpack.
  • Osprey Ultralight Dry Sack: Waterfalls get wet and wild so having this ultralight dry sack for cameras, phones and valuables means you don’t have to hold back!
  • Quick-Dry Towel: A quick-dry towel is a must for travelers. It hardly takes up any room and dries in seconds.
  • GoPro Hero 12: The best and easiest way to capture your underwater and snorkeling adventures.

ADVENTURE BAG FROM COBAN TALUN WATERFALL

This is an adventure bag. It is full of trash. Every time I go on an adventure I collect one adventure bag full of trash. It’s my small way of saying thanks to mother nature for allowing me to enjoy her beautiful creations.

If we have time to go on an adventure we have time to collect an adventure bag on the way back out of the trail once we have enjoyed the waterfall, the hike, or the beach. Adventure hard!

Tag your #ADVENTUREBAG on Instagram and mention @adventurebag in your Instagram stories to be featured and inspire your friends, family, and followers to join the movement!
